Board Fencing, High Tensile Wire & Everything in Between

Livestock Fencing Options

Pressure Treated Board Fencing: Classic 3-rail board fencing built from pressure treated lumber is one of the most attractive and durable options for horse pastures and larger livestock. It will not rot, holds up to leaning and rubbing animals, and looks great on any farm property. A hot wire strand can be added to the inside to discourage animals from pushing through.

High Tensile Wire Fencing: High tensile wire is one of the most cost-effective and versatile livestock fencing solutions available. It requires fewer posts than traditional wire fencing, covers large acreage efficiently, and is easy to electrify. It works well for cattle, horses, and larger livestock and holds its tension through Vermont’s freeze and thaw cycles better than conventional wire.

Electric Fencing: Any of our livestock fencing options can be set up for electric use. Adding an electric strand to board or wire fencing significantly increases effectiveness for containing animals and deterring predators – an important consideration for sheep, goats, and smaller livestock in Vermont where coyotes are a real concern.

Frequently Asked Questions

Pressure treated board fencing is the most popular choice for horses - it is strong, attractive, and horses cannot easily push through or get legs caught in it the way they can with wire. A hot wire strand on the inside adds an extra layer of protection. High tensile wire is also used for horses when cost or acreage is a factor.

Yes. All of our livestock fencing options can be set up for electric use. Adding an electric strand significantly improves containment for most animals and helps deter predators like coyotes.

High tensile wire uses fewer but stronger strands of wire stretched at high tension between posts. It is more cost effective than board fencing for large acreage, holds up well in Vermont's climate, and is easy to electrify. It works well for cattle, horses, and larger livestock.
